I believe you are the expert in your life — I am simply a guide along with you on your journey to not only realizing your goals, but, helping you reach them. Together, we will talk about your history, your present, and your hopes for the future. Through our work together, you will see and understand how your thoughts and emotions have guided you. In doing so, you can learn how to change your negative thought patterns and emotional responses to help you live your life to the maximum.
Through my training in psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and insight-oriented therapy styles, I believe a therapist should have a sensitive yet directive approach. I try to bring a warmth and understanding to our sessions, even as I ask questions and challenge you to face and discuss your thoughts, fears and memories that may be holding you back.
I have experience in areas such as depression, anxiety, sexual/intimacy issues, parenting, relationships, marriage, pregnancy loss, infertility and child loss.
Even when you feel stuck or frustrated, it is important for you to appreciate yourself and understand your role, both as an individual and as part of your network of family, friends and greater community. Change cannot occur in a vacuum — it can be empowering for you to see how the people in your life have affected you, how you affect others, and the ripple effect that your own personal changes will affect your environment.
I also believe in the mind-body connection. I will help you explore how your body responds to different events in your life, and help you learn how to identify these early physiological responses to handle stressful triggers more effectively.
In addition, I am a certified EMDR therapist. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) is a type of therapy which helps clients heal from suffering that is a result of disturbing and/or stressful life experiences. (For more information please click here)
